Photo 365: Day 187 – Daily Shoot: Blue

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Today’s theme is the color blue. Blue sky. Blue plate. Blue M&Ms. Make a photo of something blue and post it today.

For today’s daily shoot assignment, I want to shoot the blue sky but to make it a bit more interesting decided to add a blue subject – that’s how I ended up shooting my tennis racket against the blue sky.

My tennis racket haven’t seen daylight in years now…until this evening 😉

Tweet Tweet… It’s Twitter Tuesday.

Photo 365: Day 186 – Eyes

Not much inspiration for today 🙁

When there is nothing else to shoot…shoot a macro. That’s what I decided this evening.

I found these evaporated water bubbles inside our Aloe Vera gel bottle and to make this shot more interesting, I left a Nemo cup (from Disney On Ice) behind the bottle. Nemo has these gigantic eyes and that’s the reflection on these bubbles.

Used couple of homemade reflectors to lit the shadows.

Photo 365: Day 185 – Daily Shoot: July 4th

Today’s Daily Shoot Assignment: It’s Independence Day in the U.S (fireworks!). Make a photo with celebration as the theme, wherever you are.

When I think of July 4th, what comes to my mind is fireworks. Though I enjoyed watching fireworks this evening, I had my shot done this AM in my garage 😉

Here is how I did this for those interested – had the sparkler stuck on a flower pot filled with dirt. I had this done with my garage door closed to shoot this in complete darkness. I used 150mm Sigma lens for this shoot and had my camera turned to manual mode @f/11 for 1/3sec exposure. Before lighting the sparklers, I pre-focused  on the sparkler. Then lit the sparklers and fired off the camera using a remote. Originally I tried with 1sec exposure but I felt it was a bit overexposed, hence shot it with 1/3 sec exposure.

This is my first fireworks shoot and I am satisfied with this shot.

Photo 365: Day 184 – Daily Shoot Assignment: Sign

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Find a sign in front of a vista that tells a story.  Make a photograph and post it.

I went on a sign hunting this afternoon for today’s assignment – sort of 😉

I stopped by the library and saw lots of signs around the library – from no parking to no skate boarding. What caught my eyes was the “Walking path only” sign with an inviting wooden structure behind it.

As it was quite a sunny day, I took my polarizer filter and neutral density filters with me for my assignment shoot. I want the sky to look blue and cut down the light – so had the polarizer filter on my 50mm lens and adjusted until I got the desired results. I like the way it turned out for this assignment shoot.

Photo 365: Day 183 – Daily Shoot: Water

Today’ daily shoot challenge: Refresh from the summer heat today. Make a photo of water in motion. Freeze it or let it blur!

When I saw the daily shoot challenge this AM, I decided to shoot water spray from garden spray nozzle. So when I got settled in to shoot later this evening the real challenge was to hold the spray nozzle in place. With the family already on vacation, had to get a bit creative this evening.

At one point I thought may be I should tie the spray nozzle to a post. Luckily I was able to keep the nozzle steady by resting it against a flower pot.

I decided to go for the water blur challenge. Had this shot with Nikkor 60mm macro @f/36 for 1/3sec exposure. I like the way it turned out for today’s post.

Photo 365: Day 182 – Daily Shoot: Construction

Today’ daily shoot challenge: Construction seems to be perpetual: streets, sidewalks, buildings. Make a photo of something under construction today.

Construction – that sounds easy, right? That’s what I thought so too.

Took my P&S camera during my afternoon walk at work and took couple of shots of building constructions – I wasn’t quite pleased at the outcome. So on my way from work took a detour and visited this tiny two way road close to home which has been closed for re-pavement. It was quite sunny and had revisit later this evening to shoot for today’s challenge.

I should have taken my polarizing filter – the sky looked flat. So had to use couple of PS actions to bring out the subject.

I am starting to like this Daily Shoot challenge – keeps me stay focused.

Photo 365: Day 181 – Something Circular

Decided to join DailyShoot challenge – today’s challenge: Make a photograph of something circular and crop it within a square frame.

When I saw this challenge this AM, many composition/ideas came to my mind. Got back from work and when I saw the kiwi fruit, I thought I found my subject. So I want bring out the details in kiwi fruit – had this sit on a green plate and shot this using Sigma 150mm macro lens with natural window lighting. Used couple of homemade light reflectors to lit the shadows.

The End 😉

Photo 365: Day 180 – Hearty vegetable/tempeh soup

Now that I am on a mission to get healthy, tried making tempeh vegetable soup this evening. Took a basic chilli recipe and made some changes to suit my taste buds and made this into a hearty tempeh vegetable soup. Turned out pretty good 😉

To shoot this, I want to try a different pov and thought I should try shooting it looking top down. To fill the white space, added couple of Indian spicy dried chili peppers – although I only used jalapeño pepper on this recipe 😉

Photo 365: Day 179 – Spent flower

As I was watering the plants in our yard this evening, I saw the spent flowers in our rose bush and one of them has shed all it’s petal and had this ‘star’ like pattern – I am guessing Japanese Beetles have devoured the flowers.

Had this shot with Nikkor 60mm macro – originally tried with Sigma 150mm and 50mm prime but I like the  one shot with Nikkor 60mm macro better than the others.

That reminds me that I am behind on dead heading the spent flowers 😉

Photo 365: Day 178 – Pepper blossom

Our pepper plants have started blooming. We started hot peppers and sweet bell peppers from seeds in late spring and so far they seem to be on track 😉

It was quite windy outside this evening and as we are growing these in containers, I had to bring them inside the house to shoot the bloom. Used Sigma 150mm macro to shoot this.
