Photo 365: Day 22 – Kettle

I always wanted to capture the picture of a kettle blowing out steam. So tried this out by mounting my trusty 50mm prime on D70 on a tripod and setting the aperture to f11. Then put the camera in self timer mode and let the shutter click at 1 second.

Not a good shot…but one of these days I will perfect it 😉

Photo 365: Day 21 – Serpentine Walk

Took this picture this evening as I was waiting for my daughter’s school bus to arrive. It was rainy day. I was holding my umbrella to protect my Fuji F30 point-and-shoot camera and used my other hand to take this picture. Hence it didn’t turnout the way I want it – may be one of these days I will re-shoot the walk with my D70.

Photo 365: Day 20 – Toothpicks

Another macro post.
Today’s subject – toothpicks 😉

Photo 365: Day 19 – I am thinking…

I took a series of pictures this evening (as I was waiting at Midas for an oil change) with the idea of posting them as a collage. I want the pictures to tell a story.

So here is the sequence of events…

  • Went to Midas for an oil change and got my car in.
  • As I was waiting for things to be taken care of on my car, I walked over to Arby’s next door for a coffee.
  • I sat by the window and and I enjoyed my coffee.

Now you can tie these events with the picture collage.

Photo 365: Day 18 – Whisk

Here is a macro capture of Whisk. Used 60mm macro in manual mode to capture this shot.

Photo 365: Day 17 – It’s a bubbly day

Got the macro capture of these bubbles from my mouth wash bottle. Took about 10 different shots using 3 different lens (setup) and finally settled on this one.

First I tried with Nikkor 60mm macro and I felt I still need a closer working range. Then I tried reverse mounting my 50mm prime onto a BR-2A reverse filter and still want to get a bit closer shot on the bubbles. Finally reverse mounted my Nikon 28mm manual and got the above shot.

Photo 365: Day 16 – Mask

I had a chance to visit St. Charles High School today – I had volunteered to take pictures for a community event that took place at the St. Charles high school. As I was entering the auditorium, I saw these mask showcased and these kind of reminded me of Jim Carrey’s Mask movie.

Photo 365: Day 15 – Matchsticks

Here is my attempt to capture a macro shot of matchsticks. Mounted D70 fitted with Nikon 60mm macro lens on a tripod and shot this at f/36 for about 12 sec exposure. Did minimal post processing using Adobe RAW to pop up the colors.

Photo 365: Day 14 – Sarkarai Pongal

Happy Pongal!!
BTW – Here is wiki entry for Pongal.

One of the frequent visitor to my blogs had suggested me take on a Pongal challenge. So the idea is to take picture of Pongal.

Got home from work, talked to my wife about the challenge. She suggested may be we could plate the pongal on a plantain leaf. That worked really well. I like the contrast in colors and looks more traditional as well.

Photo 365: Day 13 – Cool Evaporated Water

As I was looking around our living room for subject for today’s photo project, I noticed our spray bottle on the ironing board. Water had evaporated inside the spray bottle and collected atop the water surface. I used my 60mm Nikon macro lens to capture this beauty and shot this in full manual mode.
