Photo 365: Day 169 – Time

Lately I have been spending too much time on my Photo 365 project and I thought with this post I should remind myself of how Time is very important.

When I started this project, I’ll take about 15-30 minutes to come up with the idea, execute that idea, and be done. But that seems to have gone three fold now 😉

It’s just that I like the my photos to be perfect and I think I want every post to be a master-piece which I know is impossbile. Coincidentally there was a post @TasraMar by Terri Bleeker (another Photo 365 blogger whom I follow) and there was this quote that really made me think

Remember you don’t have to be the best. You just have to be better than you were last week…

So simple but very powerful quote. So I am going to challenge myself to spend only 30 minutes and not to worry about the post to be the best. So how much time do you spend on your photo 365 project per day?

Photo 365: Day 168 – Japanese Beetles

It’s summer and Japanese Beetles are here 🙁

One good thing about these nasty beetles – they only live for 2 weeks. So this evening I was on a mission to shoot Japanese Beetles. In particular, I want to make use of my BR-2A reverse ring adapter.

It was quite sunny outside and decided to have this shot indoors. So I had to catch one that won’t move much and found one little beetle that wasn’t moving much – perhaps he fed too much on the leaves.

I already had my camera set on the tripod with Nikkor 28mm lens reverse mounted. So had this beetle rest on a bark mulch and had him move in front of the reverse mounted lens until he was on focus – it’s a bit of a challenge with the reverse mounted lens as things go out of focus within few centimeters.

Took about 30 shots and of those, I liked this one the best.

That’s what I was doing this evening – cut up my credit cards.

I wonder if it’s only me – I get this good feeling when my cut up my credit card. No more temptations to buy new camera gear nor annoying bills from the bank 😉

I wish it was for good though. It’s just that I was going through my junk drawer and cleaning up old cards that haven’t seen daylight in years.

Photo 365: Day 165 – Cool straw

That’s a cool looking straw on a water bottle that my daughter got on her friend’s birthday party – I think it was on her goody bag.

This evening I was wanting to try out my 50mm prime and had this shot against the bright light coming in through the window shade. Used spot metering to get the exposure and manually adjusted until I got the desired result. Since I shot this wide open, the background was totally out of focus.

Photo 365: Day 164 – Elephant Sculpture

Visited Hindu Temple @St. Louis this afternoon. Hindu temple is a place of worship for Hindus.

It was a real sunny day and had to shoot this in manual mode with my 50mm prime. I purposely shot this with the “Temple Entrance” sign in my composition as I want this picture to tell where this was shot 😉

Photo 365: Day 163 – Firecracker flower

We had rain this afternoon and it was a good break from sticky weather from this AM. As I stepped outside this evening saw these bloom of Firecraker  on our porch and shot this with macro lens.

Firecracker is a tropical plant and we had bought this from a local nursery last year. This survived the winter weather here in St. Louis – had this in the basement lit be CFL bulb.

Photo 365: Day 162 – Bunch of Eggheads

Not much inspiration for today’s post.

As I was going through my refrigerator I saw this egg box and though I should try something with the eggs. I am not an artist but you don’t need to be an artist for drawing smiley faces 😉

That’s how I ended up with these bunch of eggheads.

There is more – after downloading these later this evening, I found the picture to be grainy and that’s when I realized that I had forgotten to reset my ISO. For last night’s post I had bumped it up to ISO 800 and never set it back to ISO 200.

Now looking at my monitor, I could see these eggheads smiling at me and I felt  Who is an egghead now?

Photo365: Day 161 – Creepy

And the experimentation with the light continues…

As I was getting ready to bed last night, I noticed the speck of light creeping in through the closed door. So I thought I should try it out for today’s photo post.

Used 28mm manual Nikkor for this try out. Shot this at f/5.6 @13sec exposure.

I really like those perpendicular lines towards the bottom…have to say it again “Life is made of Math & Science

Photo 365: Day 159 – It’s about time

That’s one of our Hydrangea that decided to bloom after 4 years 😯

We got these 3 hydrangeas about 4+ years ago from Lowes & Sears (with blooms) as a small plants. The first year after planting it didn’t bloom. I remember calling the local college extension center and they said me about moving these plants to a sunny spot. So we did and didn’t had any luck for the past years. But it decided to bloom this year.

This kind of of reminds me of the quote from the Forest Gump movie…I’m pretty tired… I think I’ll go home now.

I bet if these hydrangeas were to talk they’ll mutter…

I’m pretty tired…I think I’ll boom now 😉
