Photo 365: Day 148 – Mirror Image

It’s Friday and I had sometime to burn this evening. So spent my free time on this little experiment with mirror and $1 coin.

I had this one dollar coin and had this stand atop a hand mirror in such a way I could see the reflection of the coin. Now since the mirror was looking up the ceiling, it was boring plain white – so I had the camera (on a timer) set on a tripod and was holding a blue cardboard right above the mirror/coin setup. With this setup when the camera shutter clicked I was able to capture the mirror image of the coin with the blue background – it kind of gives the feel that the coin sits atop a blue mirror, doesn’t it?

Used spot metering and shot this @f/45.0 and 6sec exposure to bring in the details.

I’ve done a few things like this as well. It’s kind of fun, actually. Nice detail here.

Surprisingly it stood by itself after few tries 😉
But I had to be extra careful when shooting – even had it fall a couple of times during the shoot. That’s when self-timer came to the rescue.

great details, right down to the scratches. if this were on a larger blue background it would emphasise the sense that it looks like you could just reach in and grab it.
