Photo 365: Day 169 – Time

Lately I have been spending too much time on my Photo 365 project and I thought with this post I should remind myself of how Time is very important.

When I started this project, I’ll take about 15-30 minutes to come up with the idea, execute that idea, and be done. But that seems to have gone three fold now 😉

It’s just that I like the my photos to be perfect and I think I want every post to be a master-piece which I know is impossbile. Coincidentally there was a post @TasraMar by Terri Bleeker (another Photo 365 blogger whom I follow) and there was this quote that really made me think

Remember you don’t have to be the best. You just have to be better than you were last week…

So simple but very powerful quote. So I am going to challenge myself to spend only 30 minutes and not to worry about the post to be the best. So how much time do you spend on your photo 365 project per day?

Oh Sasi, A subject near and dear to my heart. First of all let me say that your image is so colorful and “happy.”
I haven’t taken the time to figure out how long my Project 365 is taking these days. If I know that if I’m gonna participate in a challenge I think about it a lot during the day. Then I come home after work and work on my challenge. If I’m not happy with the results I’ll come up with another idea then I’ll pick a picture and edit, resize and save on Fickr. Then I’ll post to my blog and make some comments. I then take the time to read my “on-line fellow blogger” post and to comment on their blogs. Take into account that I’m reading my manual, reading a textbook or two and studying images on line. That’s a lot of time. I’m on day 162 and I’ve learned so much. Sometimes I plain old tired but mostly I’ve loved this journey.
Let me know how the 30 minute challenge goes.

Great point! I find myself doing that at times too… I try to keep it under an hour of time, but sometimes it takes more with technical knowledge or camera manual reading and viewing other images. Fun shot today!

Your colorful picture made me smile. I guess it brought back fun memories of when my boys were little. I agreed… it doesn’t always have to look the best or be perfect. It’s what it brings to the individual that counts. Thanks for sharing…

I find it hard to say how much time I spend on the project each day. It ranges – sometimes it’s a grab shot taken on the way home late at night especially if I am tired or need to get up early the next day. Other nights I take my time, take detours and spend around up to an hour photo-walking. Othertimes I have pre-visualised my shot and go straight there and get it.

Fun shot today. Lots of color. Time? Since I don’t have anything to use as a studio, I have to look outside my home for most of my shots. I try to make it as quickly as possible. Sometimes I spend more time on the processing than I would like, though.

Excellent point. I spend between 2 to 3 hours on some days and that is way too much time when you come down to it. I don’t do things as systematically as you do, I just try and get any photo during the day and whatever I’ve got gets uploaded in the evening.

At this point I feel like I have plateaued and am taking basically the same pictures in slightly different form everyday. So not only is my photography no longer improving, but it is even getting boring. I just want to finish the year now, and if I ever do this again, it seems like the best course would be to do like you do. Set a challenge everyday and try to make the best photo of it.

Nikhil, I really like the daily shoot assignment. It kind of help me stay focused – rather me deciding on what to shoot on a given day (and get frustrated at times), it guides me with a challenge for the day. Further I could think about it all day long and come up with the ideas for the response and get to work on it when I get back home.

      Thanks for your comments.
