It’s the stuff that the flower’s petals are attached. I looked up Google and it’s called Calyx.
I didn’t want to sound like a botanist, so I came up with this misleading title Star…

I got to be honest here; it clearly is a cool and very unusual shot, but I don’t like it. It definitely looks like something you’d cross the street to avoid at night 🙂 I don’t like photos of spiders either, no matter how great they are.
I definitely prefer flowers fully dressed in petals.
