It’s not so easy, is it? I like seeing the texture of the shell and all the imperfections that go with it. It looks like natural light. The background almost looks like it is moving and the reflection under it is just right.
Yes Martina, I used natural window light for this shoot – it was late in the evening and there wasn’t much light available. I think the hardest part was coming up with the right balance of lighting to reveal the texture. Since I shoot in the kitchen/dining area there are always pots and pans around to be used as quick reflectors.
For this shot in particular, I used a stainless steel plate as a secondary reflector. Crinkled aluminum foil stuck on a white cardboard was used as a primary reflector.
It has a nice stark minimalism. The reflection is an interesting element. You stole my thunder though (well, before I could steal it from you anyway :)). I’ve been meaning to do some egg shots.
I do think the reflection came out interesting on this shot. I had the egg sit on a white dinner plate and used reflectors for this shot and my best guess is the reflectors made the egg’s reflection to go smooth/wavy on the edges.
Such a simple yet, complex subject! I really like the focus on the egg showing the imperfections and texture as well as the reflection! The halo around the top part of the egg is interesting in a good way, I think it adds depth to the top part of the image.
I was wondering, do you have a de-noise plug-in? It looks like some noise is present which I think a plug-in would work wonders on (not that the noise makes the image bad, I think it would just “clean” it up a tad). Like Nik, I’ve been thinking of doing some egg shots too actually! Nicely done Sasi! 😀
You’re absolutely right David. Egg is an interesting photographic subject – it’s quite simple, yet complex..nicely put. On the question on de-noise plug-in, I don’t have any – I haven’t had time to explore much on PP. One of these days I need to spend some time on Adobe 😉
Lol… I know what you mean. 😉 Although, I have to say, your photo skill made the egg look interesting. The shell has a very unique texture and I am going to disagree with David about cleaning up the noise. (sorry david… 🙂 ) I think it adds more depth to the image. 😉
Amazing how much detail and texture there is in something that looks so utterly plain on the surface. Great shot!

You could do a whole series of egg shots, with variations — whole eggs, broken egg shells, yolks, etc… it could be fun to take one object and see how many different ways there are to capture it!

I still havent done this yet. You give me inspiration! Thank you.
fabulous photo, clever really clever
Love the reflection and the shadow/light work, a really nice shot! that halo-ing around the top is unusual.
