Photo 365: Day 280 – Mums macro

I haven’t done a macro shot in a long time. So decided to go with macro shot mums that were in full bloom in our garden.

In case if you haven’t noticed, there seems to be quite a bit of “spots” in my shots lately – seems to be poor case of dust in my sensor. Any suggestion on how to clean them…I know I can send it to Nikon and have it cleaned, but I haven’t decided to go that route yet.

Beautifully monochromatic photo. You clearly haven’t lost your skill despite the long intermission between macro shots.

Cleaning your sensor is (in my view) not something you should attempt without a clear recognition of the potential danger of scratching the sensor (clear filter, actually).

Having said that, I’ve cleaned mine successfully a few times using Eclipse E2 sensor swabs and solution. The width of the swabs are the same as the sensor, so you just make one pass across the width of the sensor. Alternatively, you could try using a Giottos rocket blower (don’t use one of lesser quality) if the dust isn’t strongly affixed to the sensor.

If you aren’t confident in your ability (the first time you do it can be quite nerve wracking) then maybe the professionals are the way to go. For what its worth, I’ve read that its pretty hard to damage the sensor cover.

love the soft tones. when I saw this the first thing I noticed was that the middle petals seem to be “protecting” the innermost ones – I think it is the POV you chose.
