Photo 365: Day 225 – TDS: Strong shadows

Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph using hard light today. Feature the crisp and strong shadows as a major element of your photograph.

You could call this shot as “The return of the gnome” 😉

I really like the strong shadows in this shot. The shadow seems to be of a witch – it would have looked much better if I had shot this at a different time, so that I could have caught long shadows.

Photo 365: Day 224 – TDS:Motion Blur

Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph with motion blur today. Use a fast moving subject or a slow shutter speed can do the trick.

Fast moving subject: That would be my little boy on his Radio Flyer tricycle 😉

Photo 365: Day 222 – TDS: Pattern

Todays daily shoot assignment: Find a repeating pattern and make a photo of it today.

Shot these townhouses chimney/roof pattern while visiting a friend in Chicago area yesterday.

Photo 365: Day 221 – TDS:Rule of thirds

Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph that uses the rule of thirds composition in a very obvious way and post it.

Across my friend’s home is this wetland. Took this shot with TDS assignment in my mind- I tried keeping the tall grasses, trees, and the clouds in the 1/3s

Photo 365: Day 199: TDS – Soft & Dreamy

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Sunday Challenge: Compose an image that has a soft and dreamy look today, and make a photograph.

That’s one of our hydrangea bush in our backyard after morning rain. I think rain brings our beauty in blooms and there always seems to be a color pop in the garden just after rain.

When I saw the assignment this AM, I knew I want to use soft focus filter to create the dreamy effect. With rain this AM, things worked out pretty well for this assignment shoot. I stacked soft-focus filter over UV filter for this shot.

I really like the way this shot turned out. With dark areas in the bush, I feel there is a wonderful depth and sharpness on the leaves – despite using soft focus filter.

Photo 365: Day 198 – TDS Assignment: Out of context

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Find something that’s out of context today, natural or staged, and make a photograph.

That’s weed b/w cracks on our concrete slab patio. I remember seeing the weed growing there about a week ago but left it to grow as I want to shoot this – perhaps, I know this TDS assignment coming 😉

Photo 365: Day 193: Daily Shoot Assignment – Part of an object

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Focus on a fragment of an object today. Make a photograph that only shows part of an object, not the whole thing.

Photo 365: Day 191 – Daily Shoot Assignment – Self-portrait

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Who are you? Make a self portrait today and show the rest of us what you look like.

I didn’t see this coming from Daily Shoot…with self-portrait theme. I was debating myself if I should do self-portrait or something else. But in the end decided to go with the assignment. I think it’s always good to know the face behind the camera 😉

With my star helpers (read that as family) still vacationing, it was a bit of challenge setting this up. Used a stuffed doll to set the pre-focus, then used timer for this self-portrait shot. Last weeks ‘differential in light” assignment definitely helped me today for this shot.

I used my classic N6006 camera for this pose.

Photo 365: Day 189 – Daily shoot Assignment: 4

Today’s Daily Shoot Assignment: Make a photo with the number 4 in it one way or another. Maybe 4 items. Maybe a written number. Maybe more abstract.

When I saw this assignment this AM, I pretty much decided to shoot my radio alarm clock with display @4:00. But as I was thinking about this assignment this evening I want to try something with shallow depth of field – as I got inspired by viewing “17 Beautiful Images with Shallow Depth of Field” @Digital Photography School blog this morning.

So did some prep work by setting the radio clock to 4:44 and stacking up books (total of 4nos – 3 stacked and one in my hands). It was a mere coincidence that the book with the title A 4 step guide to getting unstuck ended up on the top and look closely – my left arm makes a 4 sign 😉

So, mission accomplished – got the daily shoot assignment done and so does my challenge to do a shot with shallow depth of field.

I promise – no more self-portrait for a while 🙂

Photo 365: Day 184 – Daily Shoot Assignment: Sign

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Find a sign in front of a vista that tells a story.  Make a photograph and post it.

I went on a sign hunting this afternoon for today’s assignment – sort of 😉

I stopped by the library and saw lots of signs around the library – from no parking to no skate boarding. What caught my eyes was the “Walking path only” sign with an inviting wooden structure behind it.

As it was quite a sunny day, I took my polarizer filter and neutral density filters with me for my assignment shoot. I want the sky to look blue and cut down the light – so had the polarizer filter on my 50mm lens and adjusted until I got the desired results. I like the way it turned out for this assignment shoot.
