What’s on TV?
That’s my son enjoying his favorite show on PBS. I didn’t use flash for this shot (as I didn’t want to lose the moment) so had to bump up the ISO and ended up with a grainy portrait. But I’m overall satisfied with the outcome.

Another rainy day here in St. Louis. By the time I got home this evening after sitting in rain/traffic, there wasn’t any natural light for my daily shoot.
So thought I will shoot something to depict the weather here – that’s how I ended up with this rainy day symmetry.
As I had left my umbrella in the garage to dry out, I noticed the interesting color/pattern formed by the garage light falling through the umbrella. Had this shot with 50mm @f/1.4 for 1/25th sec exposure.
Another food related shot for my 365 project…
Whenever there is a feast there are leftovers and we ended up with Leftovers Panini for brunch. We had roasted vegetables (the good stuff) from yesterday and a quick warming, then on the stove top grill in-between wheat bread with cheese did the trick.
Thought I will throw in the grill and cast iron press in the background for this food shot.
My daughter was there to help me this morning by holding a white plate to fill in the shadows…by the end of the shoot, she said “I don’t like being a photo helper but rather be a gal behind the camera”.
I guess another young photog in the offing 😉
That’s my wife’s niece giving a quick smile for this shot. They are visiting us for this Thanksgiving.
Decided to take a break from daily shoot assignments 😉
I got inspired by Nikhil Ramkarran’s style of photography and want to try something new. I spent some time analyzing my pictures (from this project) and got the feel most of these were staged (where I have much control over the lighting and setup).
So I want to try something new – will have to see if I can stick to this as I try spending less than 30 minutes or so for this project amidst other things that keep me busy these days.
Took my daughter to library close home this afternoon and shot this clock on a pole close to the library.
Today’s daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph of something that is soft, or at least looks that way. Convince the viewer of the softness.
Something that’s soft…my original thought when I saw this assignment this AM was to use my soft focus filter to achieve the soft effect. But having used that couple of times before in this 365 project decided to go something with soft texture.
Soft texture…how about soft Tofu? Unfortunately we didn’t buy Tofu during our weekly shopping for this week. Then I thought about soft/creamy garlic/herb cheese that we bought couple of days ago…
So had these plated along with some crackers for this shot. Used 50mm prime @f/1.4 to get a creamy DOF.
Today’s daily shoot assignment: Some carry a talisman, amulet, “lucky charm”, or just a comforting thing in our pocket. What do you carry?
What do I carry in my pocket?
No talisman, amulet, or “lucky charm” for me….Nothing interesting 😉
I had fun with this shot though. I really liked setting this up for TDS assignment shot. Used couple of white boards to fill in the shadows and used natural window lighting for this shot.
Today’s daily shoot assignment: Make a photo of two complementary objects arranged in a pleasing composition, one large and one small.
Three is better that two, right? How about three complementary objects 😉
We love cast iron pan and that’s the subject for TDS: Complementary Objects assignment.
Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph with either a 9 or 6 (components of today’s date) in it represented in some way and post it today.
How about the number of rows on Connect Four game? It’s 6 rows…that’s my interpretation of TDS:6 assignment.
To make this composition a bit more interesting, I opened up Four-in-a-row game on my Ubuntu desktop and had this as a backdrop for this shot.
