w52.31.1:Got Pez?

December 6, 2011/7 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Pez – who doesn’t like ’em?

My daughter has been wanting to buy her Pez candies and bought these just after Halloween. That’s the subject for this post.

One thing I didn’t get to explore much during my 365 project (last year) was flash photography and/or strobe photography. So I had ponied up money and bought couple of brollies (just a fancy word for lighting umbrellas), stands and CFL lighting.

Luckily had some time tonight to play with the lighting and composition for this shot.

Used side lighting and diffused the light through a black umbrella – had the Pez candies seated on a black cardboard and used a black muslin as a backdrop for this setup.

Looks like a lot more to learn 😉

w52.29.1: Tree by the house at dusk

November 13, 2011/9 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Took my son for a walk this evening and shot this tree close to where we live just after sunset.

Winter and cold weather will be here soon and should be challenging to find subject(s) as we will be bundled up in our house – I might end up doing portraits of kids or perhaps work on my food photography. It’s been a long time now since I last posted a foodie shot in my blog 😉

w52.28.3: Swipe swipe swipe

That’s my little one playing Angry Birds.

Aim, swipe, hit the pigs and the game continues..here is where it gets addictive 😉

w52.28.2: Triple berries

November 7, 2011/9 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Shot these triple berries during my recent visit to the park close home.

w52.28.1: Burning Bush

November 6, 2011/7 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Shot these leaves on a Burning Bush plant last evening when I took a much needed photowalk at a park close home. Looking at these make me think holidays are almost here 😉

w52.26.1: What you got?

October 17, 2011/7 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Time flies when you have good company. That was the case this past weekend. I had my school friends visiting us from Chicago and we were pretty busy entertaining friends.

Took the friend’s kids to a park close home and as we were getting ready to leave, one of the kid’s mom in the park stopped by and asked if she could offer the kids her Halloween themed cupcakes. As the kids settled down to enjoy their treat, I shot this – initially I thought this shot is going to be a snapshot but it ended to be narrative shot when I saw this in my desktop.

I like the way the kids are looking at other’s cupcake (although all are the same) and my little one trying to say something. Ah kids 😉

w52.25.1: I’m Thinking Arby’s

October 10, 2011/7 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Had to kill some time this evening at Arby’s while getting my car fixed. As I was sipping my hot, sweetened coffee, a thought sparkled to hone my composition skills 😉

That’s how I ended up with this coffee shot.

Arby’s coffee – nothing special, just another run-of-the-mill coffee.

w52.24.1: Driftwood

October 8, 2011/10 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Spotted this driftwood in a lake close home.

w52:17.1: Watermelon

August 14, 2011/13 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Another foodie themed shot for week: 17

Unlike my last foodie themed shot (I used 60mm macro lens for that shot), I went with my 50mm prime for this melon shot and overall satisfied with this composition.

w52.15.1: Tandoori Salmon

July 31, 2011/14 Comments/in week 52/by Sasi Suruliraj

Read that as tandoori marinated salmon…

It’s been quite some time now since my last foodie related shot for my w52 project. I really like spending time on foodie themed shot(s), but it takes some time setting up the food/subject for the shoot and by the time I got it all setup and ready to shoot, someone is already hungry at home 🙂

Overall I am a tad bit satisfied with this shot – with 60mm macro, this shot ended up as a macro..may be next time I have to stick to my 50mm prime for foodie shot(s).
