Photo 365: Day 177 – Ice water & Soccer

I briefly watched world cup soccer this afternoon as US played Ghana. I got back from my yard work and heard the score was 1-1 and thought I should check it out. Too bad US didn’t win but it was a good match.

It was a hot day and to cool off I sat down with ice water to watch soccer. I had this idea to shoot the ice water glass & soccer on TV – I want it to tell a story. Initially I tried with 50mm prime but I didn’t like the outcome so had to settle with 150mm Sigma.

It was a bit tricky shooting the water glass with the bright background images on TV. So used spot metering to take the reading on the glass but later switched to manual and adjusted the aperture/speed until I got the desired photo.

I like the way it turned out.

I really like how that turned out too! It’s nice to know that other photographers have to experiment to get the desired effect…the finished product always looks effortless (in a good way). Great bokeh!

USA did well go get as far as they did and performed like a world class team and there is always Brazil in 2014. As for the photo I like how you’ve focused on the condensation, It could possibly be a touch brighter, not much – just a touch.

I couldn’t tell what the background was but it’s great. I like the composition. I think the glass could be brightened a little, though.
