Photo 365: Day 363 – Old Age Vs New Age

Shot this basket ball sized sculpture (these are part of hand rails) on the bridge close by Roosevelt and State Street in downtown Chicago.

For folks not familiar with Chicago skyline, the skyscraper in the background is the Willis Towers (aka Sears Tower)

I like the interesting contrast between the modern signs of civilization set behind an ornamentation which evokes an earlier era. Even if it is a modern ornamentation, it is not something you see anymore where expediency and the bottom line trumps little decorations on our constructions that make you happy, even if you don’t really notice them.

This is precisely the kind of thing that photography is perfect for; to remind us that as great as thriftiness can be, sometimes our spiritual needs have to be considered also.
