w52.11.3: Round and round we go…

Had a chance to visit O’Fallon’s Heritage & Freedom Fest last evening with the family.

I didn’t really lug my Nikon D70 to the fest rather went light with my Fuji F30 P&S camera. As the family had settled down to watch the firework, I had to quickly rush to the carnival area for some late evening shots. I had to bump up the ISO for this shot as I didn’t travel with my tripod…may be next year, I should go well equipped.

Considering the length of the exposure this looks very sharp. I’d never have been able to handhold 1/10th. Of course, a tripod is best, but there are some things you can try without lumbering yourself down with a tripod. A monopod, for example. Or a do it yourself string tripod (http://www.instructables.com/id/String-Tripod/).

Anyway you look at it though, you did pretty well with this shot. Colourful and well exposed, a very nice fairground shot.

Thanks for the link Nikhil. I have one of those string/DIY tripod from long time ago – definitely it’s more portable that any other tripod known to mankind 😉 For this shot, I had to hold my camera (besides holding breath for a split second) over my head to avoid those barricades in the foreground. Since it’s a P&S camera, it’s real lightweight and hand holding it for 1/10th of sec without any considerable shake wasn’t a problem.
