Photo 365: Day 126 – Macro Challenge

Another macro challenge 😉

Identify this gear. I will post the answer tomorrow evening.

Photo 365: Day 125 – Hub

It has been quite some time now since I have shot a subject with long exposure. So for today’s post I tried long exposure on catching the light from a USB hub.

Put off  all the lights in the room and had this USB hub powered by a laptop. I had set the hub sit on a black cardboard to avoid any reflection.

Then played with different exposure – 10sec, 15sec, 25sec, 30 sec. On anything past 15sec, I thought there was a “burn out” feel. So settled with 15sec exposure for today’s post.

Photo 365: Day 124 – Bloom

When I got home this evening, I took a walk around our yard and saw the yellow roses in full bloom. So decided to have yellow rose as a subject for today’s post. As it was a bit windy this evening decided to cut the bloom and shoot this indoors where I could have more control on the composition/lighting.

I didn’t really want to shoot it looking straight at the flower. Shot the rose at different angles and amongst all I liked this one.

Don’t forget…today is Twitter Tuesday.

Photo 365: Day 123 – Pencil shavings

I was undecided on the subject for today’s post when I got home this evening.

I think my legs were in auto-pilot mode this evening 😉

My legs were leading me to my back yard to take floral pictures but had to restrict myself to shoot on something else. It gets boring after shooting with the same theme. So as I was undecided on what to shoot, my daughter was getting ready for her homework and thought may be I should sharpen her pencils, then try shooting the shavings. So that’s how things turned out this evening.

Photo 365: Day 122 – Rain drops

We had some rain last night and I was able to shoot these rain drops on rose petals this morning.

Over the past couple of days I have been taking pictures before 7:00 AM in my yard and that seems to be a good time for taking pictures of blooms, buds, and such. I kind of feel the blooms are fresh and Sun light is quite optimal for taking pictures then. Will have to see how it works out in summer.

Photo 365: Day 121 – Moonbeam

That’s moonbeam in my backyard ready to bloom anytime now.

It’s a low lying plant and had to get close to the ground to shoot it this morning. So another capture with my Nikkor 60mm macro lens 😉

Photo 365: Day 120 – Rose buds

Those are rose buds ready to bloom in my back yard.

It was a windy day this evening and I had to spend quite a bit of time for the wind to calm down before shooting this. Used my Nikkor 60mm macro lens for shooting this in manual mode.

There is a bonus picture for day 120 here.

Photo 365: Day 120 – Ready, set, bloom

This is a bonus picture for day 120.

Those are peonies in my front yard ready to bloom. We had an almost perfect weather early this evening and thought I should try out my craiglist bought Nikon 28mm manual lens. Later I found it was too windy. So when the wind had calmed down a bit, I took this shot of peonies about to bloom.

Photo 365: Day 119 – Smiley

My daughter has this cool tops with smileys – the first time I saw it, I decided to have smiley as a theme for my photo post someday in the near future. This evening as was I going through my kids toys, I saw this yo-yo with a smiley sticker on it. It’s a sign (LOL), so decided to have smiley as today’s subject.

So I had her smiley tops hung on a door knob to set it as a backdrop and then had the yo-yo set to hang from the tripod for this capture. I like the way it turned out 😀

On a related note, about a month ago I read about sarcmark – it’s a sarcasm punctuation mark. I bet it will come handy for twitter posts 😉

You can read about sarcmark here.

Photo 365: Day 118 – What’s for dinner?

That’s white corn & black bean salad. That was for dinner 😉

Food photography – that is something I’m really interested in besides macro, flower, and portrait photography. But I always struggle with food photography.  I am not good at setting up the table for this kind of work. When I go back and look at my food photography pictures from the past, I feel they are flat !

May be I should take that as a challenge and do more food photography.

Feel free to add in your suggestion for food photography.
