Photo 365: Day 117 – Chipped paint

The Sun was out this noon after few days of rain.

Spent some time this evening in the backyard and I noticed that the paint that my father had applied to the porch rails have all gone after 3years. This reveals the grains in the wood wood knot which has quite an interesting pattern and resembles eyed peacock feather.

Photo 365: Day 116 – Wooden beads

Originally I had shot something else for today’s post and that did not turn out quite well. So as I was looking for some other subject, my little boy had picked up this box of wooden beads that we had bought for our daughter when she was 2yr old. That’s how how I ended up with this subject for today’s post 😉

Don’t forget…today is tasra365 Twitter Tuesday

Photo 365: Day 115 – Re-life, New life

A week before Earth day, I had a chance to read a book on container gardening and they had some cool ideas for growing plants from seeds. One among them was to use, egg cartons.

So couple of days before Earth day, sowed few Marigold seeds and it’s about a week now and the seeds have germinated. The above post is a picture of germinated Marigolds in egg carton. These will wait a couple of weeks to be transplanted to the ground.

Elsewhere on the web, I remember reading that bunnies don’t like Marigolds. Will have to try it out to see if they keep the bunnies away.

Photo 365: Day 114 – Bitten

PETA people don’t read further 😉

I hate bunnies..yeah they are cute, as along as they stay away from my garden. In the quest to keep the bunnies away (humanely) I tried spraying my garden with hot chili peppers. That really worked, but it’s a quite a lot of work. So gave up on those and tried with a commercial product by name Liquid Fence (after reading positive reviews).

I got to tell you, Liquid Fence stinks and smells like…4 letter word! Too bad it won’t keep the bunnies away although it keeps the people away…

So I thought I will write to folks in Liquid Fence that their product stinks.

I bet they’re going to say, “WE KNOW”.

Anyway, the above picture is a Phlox bitten by bunnies 🙁

Photo 365: Day 113 – Pineapple

Not much creativity today 😉

Picked up a pineapple @Costco today and spent some time this evening on capturing the details. Used window lighting to capture the details and later used Adobe raw, and PS actions to sharpen the edges.

Photo 365: Day 112 – Macro challenge

Here is an easy macro challenge for my blog visitors. The challenge is to identify this gear 😉

I will update this post with the answer tomorrow evening.

Photo 365: Day 111 – This old Book

It’s Wednesday already! Had to take my daughter for her Math class – that’s my Wednesday ritual besides going to work 😉

So I had about an hour to kill while waiting for my daughter. I had a book with me for reading but I wasn’t up to reading this evening. Luckily I had my Fuji F30 P&S with me and thought may be I should shoot something for my blog post. Looking around in the room that I was waiting I found quite a lot of old books. Found this thick, old, spiral bound book and the first time I saw it, I knew I had a subject for today’s post.

Normally I wouldn’t trust the camera’s macro auto setting, but I have read good reviews/tips on using F30 macro mode. So had my F30 set to macro mode with Aperture setting, did a manual white balance, and took about 30+ shots. Out of these I like the one above the most.

That’s how I spent my time this evening while waiting for my daughter.

Photo 365: Day 110 – Tribute to a friend

It was rather a sad day for me. One of my friend passed away today fighting colon cancer for the past 2+ years. So in my memory of my lost friend, today’s photo post is dedicated to him.
I first met NB (going by his initials) about 11 years ago when I started consulting for a local company. NB worked for the same consulting firm and we became friends. We used to work in the same building and we had contacts for about 2+ years. Then we lost contact for a while. We met again when he got married and was in touch again. Then we didn’t have any contact for a long time.

Recently through other friends we heard about his cancer and I met him in the hospital (close to where I work) about 2 months ago and I have been visiting him almost every week now. When I went to see him this noon (as I always do), he had already passed away this morning fighting cancer.

He died young and is survived by his loving wife and a 2yr old daughter.

Rest in peace my friend. You will always be remembered.

Photo 365: Day 109 – Colors of Spring

I was pleasantly surprised by the colors on thorns on our carpet rose bush in our backyard this evening. May be I have missed them during previous years. Definitely spring is full of colors and this Photo 365 project has taught me to observe things a bit closer (via my 3rd Eye ofcourse) 😉

Photo 365: Day 108 – Bookworm

Our Sunday ritual is go to the library & pick few books for the entire family. This was an exciting day for my daughter as we had borrowed the latest chapter book from Magic Tree House – Leprechaun in Late Winter. So she was in joy and as soon we got back home she started reading the book. I want to capture the moment of her involved in her reading and used my Nikon 50mm to capture this. Used SB600 flash to bounce it of the ceiling to get ambient lighting.
