Photo 365: Day 109 – Colors of Spring

I was pleasantly surprised by the colors on thorns on our carpet rose bush in our backyard this evening. May be I have missed them during previous years. Definitely spring is full of colors and this Photo 365 project has taught me to observe things a bit closer (via my 3rd Eye ofcourse) 😉

Photo 365: Day 106 – Rainy day project

We had a spring like weather in St. Louis today with occasional showers. Another reason for me to stay indoors and use my macro lens 😉

I was out of ideas for today’s post and my wife suggested may be I should try with oil/water setup. So spent some time on setting/shooting this and it turned out pretty good. Here is what I did to set this up for the shoot.

  • Filled a clear glass with about 1/4 cup oil.
  • In another cup filled with cold water and few drops of liquid food color – here is where you could be creative.
  • Then started pouring colored water over oil until I got enough bubbles.
  • Allowed the mixture to settle down.
  • Then carefully looked around the glass for the bubble/bubbles I liked and start shooting in full manual mode

One thing you will need is lot of patience and don’t forget to shoot a lot of pictures. In my case, I thought most weren’t sharp. Out of about 30+ pictures I took this evening I only liked a couple 😉

Photo 365: Day 102 – I feel fresh already

It’s a macro post for Monday 😉

Bought this cheap’o Aquafresh toothpaste from Dollar store with the idea of doing a macro capture. My original idea was to capture the paste with its tubing but that didn’t workout very well. So my wife suggested may be I should dab it in a black cardboard and try shooting it. Voila!

I like the way it turned out 😉

Photo 365: Day 99 – Needle ‘N Thread

Memories are stitched with love~Author Unknown

I had some time to kill this evening and ended up spending my “free” time shooting Needle ‘N Thread.

Had the needle nailed to a chopping board and used my daughter’s note book as a backdrop. Shot this setup with Nikkor 60mm macro @f/8 for 1/3s exposure.

Photo 365: Kalanchoe – macro capture

It’s been quiet some time now since I have posted macro shots to my project. So today decided to shoot Kalanchoe using my trusty Nikkor 60mm macro lens.

Took some time to decide on which one to shoot – as these flowers bloom in cluster. Liked the one here as they almost seem like identical twins 😉

Used late evening window lighting to light the flowers and shot this at f/18 @1.6sec exposure.  Since I shoot in RAW, used Adobe RAW to fix clarity, and vibrance.

Photo 365: Day 97 – Say Almonds!

Wednesday is a busy day for us. Had to take my daughter for her math class and when I get back there isn’t much inspiration for taking photos. So I was undecided on what to shoot for today’s photo post. But as I was packing these Almonds for my snack for work, I saw this interesting pattern in the jar/box these Almonds were packed. So had it shot with long exposure using my Nikkor 60mm macro lens to bring out the details. To keep the plastic jar/box out of the picture, had to do a tight composition.

I like the way it turned out 😉

Photo 365: Day 94 – Hyacinth

That’s a capture of Hyacinth in my front yard. Had to literally lie on my driveway to capture this (as this was low lying flower bloom). Used my  Manfrotto tripod to capture this bloom which could be set as close to the ground – it was quite a task though 😉

Photo 365: Day 89 – Kalanchoe (Bonus picture)

Bought this Kalanchoe plant last weekend to bring in some colors/life indoors 😉

Photo 365: Day 88 – Simplicity: Daffodil

These were the first to bloom in our yard.

Got home this evening and saw couple of daffodils in bloom. I wasn’t really up to lying in the ground to take the pictures this evening. So had to cut this and take it indoor to picture this. Shooting indoors gives me much control in setting up the background and also I don’t have to deal with wind and such.

Although I have to admit, this would have been even prettier in its natural setting 😉

Photo 365: Day 87 – Sneakers (bonus picture)

Bonus picture….

We bought this NB toddler sneakers for our little boy couple of months ago and with the nice weather outside, we thought of trying it out this evening. To our surprise our little ones feet is too big to fit in this cute little sneakers already. There goes another pair of sneakers to charity.

I bet this should make someone happy ;)
