Photo 365: Day 137 – Got Tempeh?

Tempeh? – it’s fermented soybean.

Last week I had a chance to meet one of my former colleague on my train ride home back from work. He happens to be a vegan and we were talking about Tofu and ended up him mentioning tempeh. It happens to be high in protein, fiber, and vitamins. So we bought a couple of packs of 3-grain tempeh from Trader Joe’s during our grocery shopping on Saturday.

It has a nutty, chewy texture and we tried it with stir fried vegetables this evening. It was delicious and will definitely be part of our diet moving forward.

So this evening, I tried shooting this (I’m always challenged with food photography). I was able to capture the details but I think I failed in plating this – lots of white space. Will have to keep trying with food photography in the days to come 🙂

Photo 365: Day 136 – Carpet rose

Another gloomy day here in St. Louis.

It was drizzling on and off and when the sky had taken a break from raining, I went out to my backyard and took this macro capture of carpet rose.

Photo 365: Day 131 – Array of colors

Another experimentation with light…

I have this small portable LED mini fan which flashes a colorful pattern when the wings are in motion. For today post, I intentionally had my camera out of focus and took multiple shots of the colorful pattern. I call this array of colors.

There is a bonus picture for day 131 -> here

Photo 365: Day 127 – Photo-in-Photo

A fun post for day 127.

It was quite a windy day this evening and I had to restrict myself to shooting something indoors this evening. So thought I should try something for fun.

As my 2yr old was playing with his play dough, I set my Fuji P&S on a gorillapod and set it to focus on him. Then I had my D70 set on tripod, and I focused my D70 on the P&S’s LCD screen and shot this picture.

Mission accomplished: One of my goal with this 365 project is to make use of my photo gears that I have been accumulating for over the past 10+ years and tonight I am a happy camper, as I utilized my 2 tripods, and 2 cameras 🙂

Photo 365: Day 126 – Macro Challenge

Another macro challenge 😉

Identify this gear. I will post the answer tomorrow evening.

Photo 365: Day 124 – Bloom

When I got home this evening, I took a walk around our yard and saw the yellow roses in full bloom. So decided to have yellow rose as a subject for today’s post. As it was a bit windy this evening decided to cut the bloom and shoot this indoors where I could have more control on the composition/lighting.

I didn’t really want to shoot it looking straight at the flower. Shot the rose at different angles and amongst all I liked this one.

Don’t forget…today is Twitter Tuesday.

Photo 365: Day 123 – Pencil shavings

I was undecided on the subject for today’s post when I got home this evening.

I think my legs were in auto-pilot mode this evening 😉

My legs were leading me to my back yard to take floral pictures but had to restrict myself to shoot on something else. It gets boring after shooting with the same theme. So as I was undecided on what to shoot, my daughter was getting ready for her homework and thought may be I should sharpen her pencils, then try shooting the shavings. So that’s how things turned out this evening.

Photo 365: Day 122 – Rain drops

We had some rain last night and I was able to shoot these rain drops on rose petals this morning.

Over the past couple of days I have been taking pictures before 7:00 AM in my yard and that seems to be a good time for taking pictures of blooms, buds, and such. I kind of feel the blooms are fresh and Sun light is quite optimal for taking pictures then. Will have to see how it works out in summer.

Photo 365: Day 121 – Moonbeam

That’s moonbeam in my backyard ready to bloom anytime now.

It’s a low lying plant and had to get close to the ground to shoot it this morning. So another capture with my Nikkor 60mm macro lens 😉
