Photo 365: Day 113 – Pineapple

Not much creativity today ๐Ÿ˜‰

Picked up a pineapple @Costco today and spent some time this evening on capturing the details. Used window lighting to capture the details and later used Adobe raw, and PS actions to sharpen the edges.

Photo 365: Day 112 – Macro challenge

Here is an easy macro challenge for my blog visitors. The challenge is to identify this gear ๐Ÿ˜‰

I will update this post with the answer tomorrow evening.

Photo 365: Day 109 – Colors of Spring

I was pleasantly surprised by the colors on thorns on our carpet rose bush in our backyard this evening.ย May be I have missed them during previous years. Definitely spring is full of colors and this Photo 365 project has taught me to observe things a bit closer (via my 3rd Eye ofcourse) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Photo 365: Day 108 – Bookworm

Our Sunday ritual is go to the library & pick few books for the entire family. This was an exciting day for my daughter as we had borrowed the latest chapter book from Magic Tree House – Leprechaunย in Late Winter. So she was in joy and as soon we got back home she started reading the book. I want to capture the moment of her involved in her reading and used my Nikon 50mm to capture this. Used SB600 flash to bounce it of the ceiling to get ambient lighting.

Photo 365: Day 107 – Isle of Spice

No that’s not a shoot from a grocery store ๐Ÿ˜‰
Those are some of the spices from our pantry.
Had some free time this afternoon and spent it on shooting these spices. Surprisingly all these happened to be from McCormick and it worked it pretty well. To bring out the contrast in colors (red caps) I had the spice bottles sit on a blue cardboard and used window lighting to capture these.

Photo 365: Day 106 – Rainy day project

We had a spring like weather in St. Louis today with occasional showers. Another reason for me to stay indoors and use my macro lens ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was out of ideas for today’s post and my wife suggested may be I should try with oil/water setup. So spent some time on setting/shooting this and it turned out pretty good. Here is what I did to set this up for the shoot.

  • Filled a clear glass with about 1/4 cup oil.
  • In another cup filled with cold water and few drops of liquid food color – here is where you could be creative.
  • Then started pouring colored water over oil until I got enough bubbles.
  • Allowed the mixture to settle down.
  • Then carefully looked around the glass for the bubble/bubbles I liked and start shooting in full manual mode

One thing you will need is lot of patience and don’t forget to shoot a lot of pictures. In my case, I thought most weren’t sharp. Out of about 30+ pictures I took this evening I only liked a couple ๐Ÿ˜‰

Photo 365: Day 105 – Boys ‘R Boys

We had a nice weather this evening with a bit of breeze and a couple of drizzle – wished we had soaking rain though. It feels like summer already.

Anyway spent some time outdoors this evening with my little boy. He likes watching trucks/cars passing by and digging dirt unlike his big sister who likes reading books. So he was all excited this evening when I took him outside. So he had his bucket/trowel and was ready to get dirty.

So I confer Boys ‘R Boys.

There is a bonus post for day 105 here.

Photo 365: Day 105 – Pot of Gold (bonus picture)

Here is my 2yr old boy digging for the pot of gold.ย Yeah I hinted him today is tax day ๐Ÿ˜‰

Photo 365: Day 104 – Crack-a-Jack

Read that as Crack-a-AppleJack ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s a fun post…Got home late (as Wednesday being my daughter Math class day that I had to chauffeur) and was in a rush to shoot something before the losing sunlight. So thought I should do something creative with the monkey wrench. Trying to find something that would fit within its jaws was the hardest part – it would have been nice if we had some cherry tomatoes around.

Only thing colorful that I could find was AppleJacks…so here is Crack-a-AppleJack ๐Ÿ˜‰

Photo 365: Day 103 – Thank you internet

Ah I hit one of those days when you feel you don’t have anything else to shoot ๐Ÿ™

Got home from work and took bunch of pictures and didn’t like any. That’s when I got the feeling that I didn’t have anything else to shoot. You could relate this to the feeling when you surf aimlessly and at some point think you’ve reached the end of the internet ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, as I was going through these downloaded pictures I saw this modem cable by my bookcase and it struck me ‘why not do a macro capture on modem cable?’

So took my camera with Nikkor 60mm macro lens and started shooting again. I really like the way this macro capture turned out.

Also this capture made me think how thankful we should be for the internet. I heard on NPR yesterday that on a recent survey on Internet Vs TV, people choose Internet over TV. Surely internet seem to be have become an indispensable part of life style. So I Thank you Internet!
