Photo 365: Day 185 – Daily Shoot: July 4th

Today’s Daily Shoot Assignment: It’s Independence Day in the U.S (fireworks!). Make a photo with celebration as the theme, wherever you are.

When I think of July 4th, what comes to my mind is fireworks. Though I enjoyed watching fireworks this evening, I had my shot done this AM in my garage 😉

Here is how I did this for those interested – had the sparkler stuck on a flower pot filled with dirt. I had this done with my garage door closed to shoot this in complete darkness. I used 150mm Sigma lens for this shoot and had my camera turned to manual mode @f/11 for 1/3sec exposure. Before lighting the sparklers, I pre-focused  on the sparkler. Then lit the sparklers and fired off the camera using a remote. Originally I tried with 1sec exposure but I felt it was a bit overexposed, hence shot it with 1/3 sec exposure.

This is my first fireworks shoot and I am satisfied with this shot.

Photo 365: Day 181 – Something Circular

Decided to join DailyShoot challenge – today’s challenge: Make a photograph of something circular and crop it within a square frame.

When I saw this challenge this AM, many composition/ideas came to my mind. Got back from work and when I saw the kiwi fruit, I thought I found my subject. So I want bring out the details in kiwi fruit – had this sit on a green plate and shot this using Sigma 150mm macro lens with natural window lighting. Used couple of homemade light reflectors to lit the shadows.

The End 😉

Photo 365: Day 180 – Hearty vegetable/tempeh soup

Now that I am on a mission to get healthy, tried making tempeh vegetable soup this evening. Took a basic chilli recipe and made some changes to suit my taste buds and made this into a hearty tempeh vegetable soup. Turned out pretty good 😉

To shoot this, I want to try a different pov and thought I should try shooting it looking top down. To fill the white space, added couple of Indian spicy dried chili peppers – although I only used jalapeño pepper on this recipe 😉

Photo 365: Day 178 – Pepper blossom

Our pepper plants have started blooming. We started hot peppers and sweet bell peppers from seeds in late spring and so far they seem to be on track 😉

It was quite windy outside this evening and as we are growing these in containers, I had to bring them inside the house to shoot the bloom. Used Sigma 150mm macro to shoot this.

Photo 365: Day 177 – Ice water & Soccer

I briefly watched world cup soccer this afternoon as US played Ghana. I got back from my yard work and heard the score was 1-1 and thought I should check it out. Too bad US didn’t win but it was a good match.

It was a hot day and to cool off I sat down with ice water to watch soccer. I had this idea to shoot the ice water glass & soccer on TV – I want it to tell a story. Initially I tried with 50mm prime but I didn’t like the outcome so had to settle with 150mm Sigma.

It was a bit tricky shooting the water glass with the bright background images on TV. So used spot metering to take the reading on the glass but later switched to manual and adjusted the aperture/speed until I got the desired photo.

I like the way it turned out.

Photo 365: Day 176 – Abstract

As I stepped outside to take photos for my 365 project, I had in my mind to do abstract theme for today’s post. Asiatic lilies are in full bloom in our yard and I noticed evening sunlight filtering through the petals. So found a spot to rest my tripod/camera, and shot this using Sigma 150mm macro lens.

I like the way it turned out this evening.

Photo 365: Day 175: Shrimp salad

It’s been quite some time now since I have last done food photography. So decided to try with food photography this evening. Picked a recipe for shrimp salad online and tried it with lot of summer veggies. It turned out pretty good 😉
