Photo 365: Day 256 – TDS: Hard Shadows

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Hard shadows can emphasize texture and edges. Find a scene lit with hard shadows today and make a photo.

Weekdays are getting real busy these days with outside school activities for my daughter. I had about 30 minutes window this evening before leaving home to pick up my daughter. So had to come up with something real quick for TDS shot.

It turned out to be a rainy, and overcast day here in St. Louis – so I ended up doing my shot indoors.

Picked the simple subject of silverware and used window lighting for this shot. To produce harsh shadows used my daughter’s take home folder to block light on the subject and increased the exposure time.

I like the way it turned out for this post 🙂

Photo 365: Day 255 – TDS: Frame

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Use a door or window as a framing device to contain a smaller scene today.

Kitchen window – that’s my subject for TDS:Framing assignment.

There is a bonus picture for Day 255 –> here.

Photo 365: Day 255 – TDS: Frame (bonus)

Bonus picture for TDS:Frame assignment.

As I was trying to see if I could make use my daughter’s old doll house for TDS assignment, my little boy was curious to see what I was doing. Shot this from the other side of the doll house. Making him to stay in a place was a tough job though – had to convince him with a gummy for this shot;)

Although not a perfect frame, I kind of like this shot.

Photo 365: Day 254 – TDS:Sidewalk

Today’s daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph of a path, sidewalk, trail, or road today and post it. Lead our eye through the scene.

I waited too long for today’s shot. By the time I got to do the shot of the sidewalk, there wasn’t mucht light. So had to bump up the ISO, then on PS raw – had to increase the exposure to +1.75 and ended up with a grainy shot 😉

Lesson learnt – don’t wait until the 11th hour for your shot.

Photo 365: Day 253 – TDS: Scale

Todays daily shoot assignment: Play with scale today. Make a photo of something small that looks huge.

Fun TDS assignment. Used my little boy’s digger toy for this assignment. We had some landscape stone from our last landscaping project and used those for this set-up.

Initially I had trouble shooting the subject to look huge – I was shooting real close with the zoom lens at its wide end and later figured I had to shoot at low angle to make the subject look huge.

Photo 365: Day 252 – TDS: Glass

Todays daily shoot assignment: Plastic or glass, make a photo of a bottle or grouping of bottles today and post it.

Glass is my choice for TDS assignment.

One of our friend had gifted these beautiful, hand painted glass long time ago. When I saw the TDS assignment this morning, I knew my subject for todays post. Further it’s an opportunity to use my Sigma macro lens 😉

Shot this using Sigma 150mm macro lens @f/5.6 using window lighting. I love the colors/shapes of these glass pieces.

Photo 365: Day 251 – TDS: Horizontal lines

Todays daily shoot assignment: Find a strong series of horizontal lines or elements and make a photograph of it today.

Does power lines make horizontal lines? Perhaps not, they’re suspended such a way they sag during summer and contract during winter months 😉

Anyway, power lines are my subject for TDS:Horizontal Lines assignment.

Shot this while waiting for my daughter to return from her chess club meet this evening. The place hosting the chess club is located close to the highway and this spot should present wonderful photo opps in the near future.

It was a rainy/overcast day – hence the sky looks flat. Used Nikon 50mm at f/1.4 for this shot.

Photo 365: Day 250 – TDS: Front of a Building

Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph of the front of a building today. Could be your house, the bank, or city hall.

Well it’s not my house nor a city hall 😉

I want to shoot the parking garage with the “lights On” but ended up shooting the construction crane, and the garage. Had this shot early this morning before heading to my work place.

Shot this using my trusty Fuji P&S – used spot metering for this shot.

Photo 365: Day 249 – TDS: Mode of Transportation

Todays daily shoot assignment: How did you get around today? Make a photograph of your transportation and post it.

I used my car/metro to get to work today (and every day). So used diptych to illustrate my mode of transportation.

Photo 365: Day 248 – TDS: 6

Todays daily shoot assignment: Make a photograph with either a 9 or 6 (components of today’s date) in it represented in some way and post it today.

How about the number of rows on Connect Four game? It’s 6 rows…that’s my interpretation of TDS:6 assignment.

To make this composition a bit more interesting, I opened up Four-in-a-row game on my Ubuntu desktop and had this as a backdrop for this shot.
