Photo 365: Day 128 – Cousins?

Alright the title is a bit misleading or inappropriate for this photo…may be it would be apt to put it as D70 Vs D90 – well they’re cousins anyway 😉

One of my good friend visited me this evening and brought his newly bought D90. So we ended up testing few shots this evening under almost similar settings. I know D90 excels D70 in many ways and it does exceptionally well in high ISO. But I wasn’t really interested in testing “well known’ facts but rather interested in testing it at ISO 200.

I rummaged through our pantry looking for subjects with different color tones. Then had it set up such that these are well lit with natural window lighting. Then had my D70 with Nikon 50mm prime, set to ISO 200 and shot this in RAW with manual mode at f/5.6 and exposed it for 1/13sec. Then repeated the same setup with D90.

To be honest, I was really impressed with the aesthetics and large LCD on D90. Then had these downloaded and converted to JPEGs (with no PP) to compare side by side.

Now here is where I need my blog viewers (that should be you) help.

Take a look at the photo above. Which one do you like? To make it simple, do you like the one on the left or the one on the right?

Photo 365: Day 125 – Hub

It has been quite some time now since I have shot a subject with long exposure. So for today’s post I tried long exposure on catching the light from a USB hub.

Put off  all the lights in the room and had this USB hub powered by a laptop. I had set the hub sit on a black cardboard to avoid any reflection.

Then played with different exposure – 10sec, 15sec, 25sec, 30 sec. On anything past 15sec, I thought there was a “burn out” feel. So settled with 15sec exposure for today’s post.

Photo 365: Day 119 – Smiley

My daughter has this cool tops with smileys – the first time I saw it, I decided to have smiley as a theme for my photo post someday in the near future. This evening as was I going through my kids toys, I saw this yo-yo with a smiley sticker on it. It’s a sign (LOL), so decided to have smiley as today’s subject.

So I had her smiley tops hung on a door knob to set it as a backdrop and then had the yo-yo set to hang from the tripod for this capture. I like the way it turned out 😀

On a related note, about a month ago I read about sarcmark – it’s a sarcasm punctuation mark. I bet it will come handy for twitter posts 😉

You can read about sarcmark here.

Photo 365: Day 108 – Bookworm

Our Sunday ritual is go to the library & pick few books for the entire family. This was an exciting day for my daughter as we had borrowed the latest chapter book from Magic Tree House – Leprechaun in Late Winter. So she was in joy and as soon we got back home she started reading the book. I want to capture the moment of her involved in her reading and used my Nikon 50mm to capture this. Used SB600 flash to bounce it of the ceiling to get ambient lighting.

Photo 365: Day 100 – 100

100 days since I started my Photo 365 project. Seems like yesterday (not really) since I posted my first photo post for my 365 project. I have to admit though, it’s not been easy going on this project. There are times I didn’t had any inspiration and even thought may be I should quit. Somehow I have kept it going on this so far…

So to mark 100 days on my project, decided to shoot these glow in the dark sticks that I picked from the Dollar store this morning. I had trouble setting this up though…so its not a great capture, but its a milestone.

Thanks for visiting/commenting and tomorrow is another day 😉

Photo 365: Day 96 – Kaleidoscope Tulip

Here is a capture of Kaleidoscope Tulip that had bloomed in our front yard.

I wasn’t ready for acrobatics this evening (read that as I wasn’t ready to bend to capture this in its natural setting) as this was on a spot close to the garage door and other bushes. Further it was real windy this evening. So had it clipped and shot this indoor with a backdrop.

To make this composition interesting, I decided to add a leaf – further my wife felt the tulip was lonely 😉

Photo 365: Day 95 – I hear ice-cream truck

We had a wonderful weather here in St. Louis today and we even heard the ice-cream truck pass by our community this evening.

I think my little one was playing with his toys and as soon as he heard the truck pass by, he was on his heals and was looking for the truck looking through the windows shades by our dining area. I already had my camera ready as I was planning on taking pictures this evening and was able to capture this moment.

Photo 365: Day 94 – Daffodils in full bloom

A week ago I had posted Daffodil in my photo blog post titled Simplicity. Back then I had it cut and shot it indoors with a backdrop (link here).

For today’s post I took the picture of the bloom in its natural setting. Flowers are better captured in their natural setting – that’s my personal opinion 😉

Photo 365: Day 93 – I can do anything? (bonus picture)

That’s my 2year old tying to imitate his big sister. Surely he seems to have an attitude that he can do everything and anything that his sister does 😉

I am guessing you teach one kid and the other will catch-up…

Photo 365: Day 93 – Am I in heaven?

That’s the expression on our little one’s face after he had his share of TJ’s Joe-Joe’s sandwich cookies this afternoon -yeah give them sugar and they’ll bless you for sure 😉

I remember those early days when he just used to eat the creamy fillings on these cookies and throw away the cookie part. These days he seem to be enjoying the entire sandwich cookies.
